The people come to understand that wealth is not the fruit of labour but the result of organised, protected robbery. Rich people are no longer respectable people; they are nothing more than flesh eating animals, jackals and vultures which wallow in the people's blood.

About This Quote

In the 1970s, the communists in China believed that the only solution to the problems of poverty and inequality was to seize all of the wealth from those who controlled it. They argued that it was unfair that some people had all of the wealth and they didn’t have enough to eat. The reason for this was because they were not working hard enough. It was their fault that they were living a life of luxury, because it was their fault that they weren’t working hard enough. In other words, “If you don’t give us what we want, we will take it from you.”
